  • Manchester United thumped Chelsea 4-1 at Old Trafford to secure Champions League football
  • Frank Lampard’s men put up a lacklustre display against a United side that did not have to do much
  • January signing Enzo Fernandez appeared to be the only player putting in a shift

Chelsea’s record signing Enzo Fernandez has been singled out for praise by fans last night despite being on the losing side of a brutal 4-1 scoreline.

Manchester United secured Champions League football next season in style after dispatching the Blues at Old Trafford, moving out of reach of fifth-placed Liverpool, who will now settle for a Europa League spot.

Casemiro, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford all got on the scoresheet for the Red Devils before loan star Joao Felix got a consolation for Chelsea.

The Londoners may be struggling, but there is some positivity in the team, one of which is Argentina midfielder Fernandez whom they paid £106.8m, as reported by Guardian.

Fernandez singled out for praise

The former Benfica star topped his teammates in all areas of stats last night, according to stats provided by Albiceleste Talk on Twitter, which backs up the claim of being the team’s best player.

Fans are in awe of their South American star’s performance and claim he needs more support as other teammates are letting him down.

A fan wrote:

''Man I feel so in debt to him, although I'm not on the pitch, we really don’t deserve him [sic]''

Another wrote:

''One of the reasons I want more South American players.''

A third wrote:

''Enzo Fernandez is a true hero for It’s players like him who make the club what it is, and the fans couldn’t be prouder.''

A fourth added:

''Enzo Fernández is a true gem at His passion for the club and dedication to success is unparalleled. Here's to hoping more players follow in his footsteps.''

Bruno explains Fernandez’ spat

Sports Brief reported that Enzo Fernandez stood up to Man Utd players after their third goal and caused a mini melee due to the celebrations after Bruno Fernandes’ penalty.

The Portuguese clarified the situation as nothing and claimed he did nothing wrong but admitted to celebrating a bit too much due to the frustration of missing chances earlier.
